Egypt’s Foreign Minister Meets Palestinian Vice President in Cairo

Cairo: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdelatty, held discussions on Saturday with Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh, who is making his first official visit to Egypt since taking office.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, Minister Abdelatty extended a warm welcome to Vice President Al-Sheikh and reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast backing of the Palestinian National Authority. He expressed support for the reform initiatives recently outlined by the Palestinian President during the extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo.

Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s ongoing commitment—alongside Qatar and the United States—to mediating a ceasefire in Gaza. He highlighted Egypt’s sustained efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave, where the humanitarian situation remains critical. The Foreign Minister strongly denounced the use of starvation as a tool of collective punishment by Israel.

The meeting also covered the importance of facilitating early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, in alignment with the Arab-Islamic plan. Minister Abdelatty outlined preparations for an upcoming international conference on Gaza’s reconstruction, which Egypt will host in collaboration with the United Nations and the Palestinian government.

The Foreign Minister further stressed the necessity of establishing a viable political pathway towards a two-state solution—creating an independent Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He underlined that this remains the sole route to achieving a sustainable resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and ensuring long-term peace in the region.

Vice President Al-Sheikh expressed gratitude for Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. He praised Cairo’s role in mediating ceasefires, delivering humanitarian aid, and contributing to Gaza’s reconstruction efforts.
